Faye Saturday, May 24, 2008 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Dr. Moses Mason House Exhibit Hall This year's theme: It's All Relatives! The theme of this year's Faye Taylor Memorial Art Show—"It’s All Relatives!"—represents a change from our usual approach to local history by focusing on favorite relatives, past or present. Students are being to submit "people art"—drawings or paintings of a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or other relative who is especially important or interesting to them. Portraits traditionally show a person's face, but students may choose to submit an artwork showing their relative in action: driving a truck, playing ball, hunting or fishing, building something—whatever activity makes that person memorable and interesting. Students are asked to identify the subject of their artwork on the BACK of the paper, along with the other required information listed below. DATE, TIME AND PLACE: All SAD #44 elementary students (grades 1-6) are invited to enter the show by submitting a finished ("finished" means having paper COMPLETELY covered with color) artwork in any medium (crayon, oil, tempera, watercolor, chalk, etc.) no larger than 12 inches by 18 inches. No entry will be considered with writing or lettering (except as part of a sign) on the front side. It must be delivered to the Dr. Moses Mason House Exhibit Hall by 3 p.m., Friday, May 23rd in order to be considered for a prize. On Saturday morning, at least three judges will look at all entries to determine how they relate to this year's theme and to choose the winners. ALL ENTRIES MUST INCLUDE, on the BACK SIDE, the STUDENT'S FULL NAME AND TELEPHONE NUMBER, TEACHER'S NAME, GRADE LEVEL, AND SCHOOL. Do not fold or roll the entry; please keep it flat. Contest entries may be done as a class project or may be completed at home. Questions about the contest should be directed to the Society at 824-2908 or info@bethelhistorical.org. Ribbons, certificates and cash prizes ($50 First Prize, $35 Second Prize, $20 Third Prize) will be awarded to the winners in three divisions: Grades 1 & 2, Grades 3 & 4, and Grades 5 & 6. This
contest honors the memory of Faye Sanborn Taylor
(1908–1972), a local landscape painter
who was very interested in encouraging the creative talents of young people. She was a charter member of the Bethel Historical Society in 1966. |
